One Season, One Book Reading Club for grades 5-12

One Season, One Book Reading Club for grades 5-12

One Season, One Book Reading Club for grades 5-12

Wednesday, November 3

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Meet in-person with other teens to talk about books. A low-pressure reading club that only meets once per season. Want to join a book club but don’t want a lot of pressure or a heavy reading list to keep up with? We’ve got you covered! We’re starting a low-pressure reading club where you have all season to complete a novel at your own pace.
Our fall title is a fantasy story mixed with steampunk, Lovecraftian horror: Deeplight by Frances Hardinge. Fifty years ago, the sea gods turned on one another and tore each other apart. Nobody knows why. Now, even small scraps of dead god are worth a fortune because they possess strange powers. When fifteen-year-old Hark finds the still-beating heart of a god, he’ll risk everything to keep it. Because Hark needs the heart to save the life of his friend, Jelt. But with the heart, Jelt begins to transform. And now Hark must decide what loyalty really means and how much he’s willing to sacrifice. Click here to listen to the first chapter, as read by the author!
Copies of Deeplight are available to borrow at the Youth Services Desk. The book and audiobook are also available (free with your Blackstone library card) from Hoopla Digital. You’ll have until November to read the book. When we meet in November, we’ll discuss what we liked and didn’t like about the story, then announce our winter tale!
To help keep families safe, we’re offering a variety of in-person & virtual events this fall @ Blackstone Teen Services. A waiting list will open when the event is full. Please be respectful of limited space & only sign up for events you are sure you can attend. We can’t wait to see you! To sign up for this and other teen events, visit our Teen Services Events Sign Up Page Here.
