Friends Recognize Retiring Board Members

At its Annual Meeting on June 21st, the Board of the Friends presented “Certificates of Appreciation” to retiring Board members, Alpha Coiro, Pam Roy, Callista Stoddard and Helen Wong.  All were long-time members of the Friends and the Board of Directors and provided numerous years of strong leadership, on-going dedication and hard work and contributed significantly to the success of the Friends organization in support of the Blackstone Library.

It’s Friends Membership Renewal Time

Friends Membership runs from July 1 through June 30th.  If you haven’t renewed your membership for the 2022-2023 year yet, please scroll down to the bottom of this page to do so. We greatly appreciate your support which enables us to further enhance the offerings from the Blackstone Library.

What Friends Do

The Friends of the James Blackstone Memorial Library support the library through a variety of fundraising activities including an annual book sale. We sponsor lectures and programs and provide funds for special programming, particularly for the Youth Services Department, as well as funds for the purchase of equipment for the library, museum passes, movies, concerts, furniture and plantings for the library grounds.   • The Friends of the James Blackstone Memorial Library was founded in 1988 with a 501(c)3 non-profit status.
  • We have approximately 330 members with 40 year-round volunteers.
  • Governance is by a board; officers are elected annually and directors are appointed for 4-year terms.
  • Annual meeting for members takes place in June.
  • The library director attends all board meetings and prioritizes the funding requests.
  • All money raised less expenses is donated back to the library.
  • Major revenue is generated from donated books through book sales including online sales and in-house sales, and special events such as the holiday basket sale.
  • Friends members enjoy a special preview night at the annual book sale.
