The present First Congregational Church is the fifth building built by the First Church and Society of Branford. It was erected between 1840 and 1845 under the pastorate of Timothy P. Gillett and enlarged in 1868 under Elijah C. Baldwin. The brick building is constructed in the Greek Revival style.
