Join Bob Hennessy, musician and harmonica specialist, for a presentation and music lesson on the harmonica!
You’ll learn about the rich history of the harmonica spanning from its beginnings a few thousand years ago in China, all the way the U.S. where this tiny but highly sophisticated instrument greatly influenced the postwar Chicago blues scene, American folk music, classical, jazz, country, and rock. Bob will demonstrate these styles through storytelling and playing examples of great harmonica use in these genres.
The second portion of the class will be a harmonica lesson where Bob teaches you the basics of harmonica, including how to hold the harmonica, breathe, and find your finger style. Each attendee will receive their own brand new Hohner Special 20 C harmonica with 30-day free online lessons.
Harmonicas will be provided and given to you thanks to a generous partnership between the Blackstone Library and the Connecticut State Library.
