The Lafayette Trail – Presented by the Branford Historical Society

The Lafayette Trail – Presented by the Branford Historical Society

Wednesday, September 9

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Julien P. Icher will speak about Lafayette’s Farewell Tour, and the efforts carried out by the team of The Lafayette Trail, Inc., to memorialize General Lafayette’s fourth and last visit to the U.S., in particular the stops he made in Connecticut!

Julien is the founder and president of The Lafayette Trail, Inc. (thelafayettetrail.org), a nonprofit organization with the mission to document, map and mark General Lafayette’s footsteps during his 1824-1825 Farewell Tour of the U.S. in preparation for the 2024 tour bicentennial celebrations.

Julien is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon. He holds a bachelor’s degree with a double major in history and geography as well as two master’s degrees in geography and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In April 2018, he had the honor of accompanying President Emmanuel Macron of France as a member of the French Presidential Delegation for President Macron’s state visit to Washington D.C. At age 24, he was the youngest member of the delegation.

Julien is committed to preserving the legacy of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour and its significance to the United States at community, state, and federal levels.

Lafayette’s role in the Revolutionary War is widely appreciated. The importance of his Triumphal Return in 1824 as the last surviving Major General of the Continental Army remains largely unknown to the public. The Farewell Tour enshrined Lafayette’s status as a national icon of the U.S. collective memory, which he still enjoys to this day.

This program is sponsored by the Branford Historical Society. To learn more about the program, please contact Mike Russo, Program Chair at the Branford Historical Society at programs@branfordhistoricalsociety.org.
