Friends Book Sale FAQs

Do you need a Friends membership to shop at the Book Sale on the green?

On Thursday, from 5PM to 7PM, shopping is open ONLY for Friends who have current memberships (i.e., have paid through 06-30-2023), or who have paid an entrance fee at the door. If you are unsure of your membership status, please send an email to friends@blackstonelibrary.org and we will let you know.

How do I become a member?

Friends Membership runs from July 1st through June 30th. If you would like to become a Friend, you can mail a check to the library or leave it at the library circulation desk. You can also join online here. Please be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the web page for membership information.

What are the book prices?

Books are priced the same as in previous years. For example, $3 Hard cover, $2 trade, $0.50 mass market paperback, $5 coffee table, children’s books are uniquely priced as they vary in pricing, $1 music CDs, $2 DVDs, and other special priced items. We also have many books at bargain prices – such as many of our ‘mini-books’ for $0.50 which are always popular.

What payment will be accepted?

We accept cash, credit card or personal check.

Will there be a special preview sale for Friends members?

Yes. As a benefit of being a current Friends member, you can shop on Thursday, from 5PM to 7PM before it is open to the general public.

Can we donate books? Are the donation bins open?

Yes, book collection bins are open behind the Library or in the Volunteer Services Center parking lot at 30 Harrison Ave. Bins are open 7 days a week / 24 hours per day. Books donated after September 9th will be sorted and stored for next year’s sale.

What happens to the leftover books after the sale?

As in the past, we have arrangements to re-donate any unsold books to other charities and organizations. This will further our mission to find a home for every book, reuse our resources, and promote literacy.

Will there be a $10 bag sale?

YES! Bags will be provided by the Friends for $10 ON SUNDAY, September 25th. You can fit as many books as the bag can carry (approximately 25 hard cover books).

Where does the money raised from the book sale go?

Friends is one of the largest donors to the James Blackstone Memorial Library. In the past two years alone, the Friends donated over $130,000 to the library! Funds are used for Children’s programs, adult lectures and programs, other special programming, the purchase of equipment, books, museum passes, movies, concerts, hoopla and canopy, furniture, plantings on the library grounds, and more… With the Friends support, the Blackstone Library is able to offer a variety of services to our community.

Can I volunteer for the friends?

Yes, we welcome all volunteers. Please note that we have many upcoming activities beyond our Fall Book Sale for which we need help. Friends continues beyond September! If you would like to help, please send an email to friends@blackstonelibrary.org

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR BOOK SALE AND OUR LIBRARY
